Nathan Heathcote, Rallycross driver for LD Motorsport, travelled to Ireland’s Mondello Park Circuit to compete in rounds 4 and 5 of the Toyo Tires British Rallycross Championship. Heathcote has been counting down the days to compete and come back fighting after he raced and won the season opener of the MSA British Rallycross championship at Croft earlier this year.
On the first day of the Irish Rallycross Heathcote had a great start to the day, winning his first heat and ending up in a fantastic 2nd place overall in qualifying 1, following further successful results with a forth and third position in qualifying 2 and 3. Heathcote lined up for semi-final 2 in pole position hoping to carry the skills and speed he had shown earlier on in the day and continue his success.
“Everything was going so perfectly on Saturday. The car felt great and we were setting the pace in the semi-final until a small leak from the engine caused a fire and ended my semi-final! I was absolutely gutted.”
Heathcote had no option but remove himself from the race and lose his chances of a podium. As a result of this, Heathcote’s car was unsafe to drive, so he continued the weekend in Warren Scott’s DS3. This was a challenge for Heathcote to adjust. However, regardless of these complications, Heathcote was awarded the fastest lap time for both semi-finals and rewarded fifth place on the grid for the final.
After a weekend of both ups and downs, Heathcote put up a fantastic fight and crossed the line in fourth position for the British Rallycross championship. The championship will continue on the August 28th Bank Holiday Monday at the Lydden Hill Circuit for round 6.
We will be watching and supporting Nathan Heathcote – Wish him Good Luck!
